About Tony Sheppard
Tony plays Keyboards, Vocals and Trombone with Ain't Misbehavin' Jazz Duo, and is Musical director for the Crescendo Big Band, and the Jay Cee Big Band.
Spent some years in the sixties with his own band —The Quay Street Jazzmen , then later he joined The Delta Jazzmen- Some Radio and TV shows with them . Then as  an itinerant  trombonist appeared  at various London Jazz venues including the Marquee Club , Ken Colyers  100 Oxford Street and clubs around all over the UK. . He was in a backing band (The Big Soul Band) which accompanied star jazz players  amongst whom were Tubby Hayes, Pete King.  Dance bands, pit orchestras  and even a circus  band were also a source of income.   He is a bit vague on dates etc.  (well it was the sixties !)

Took up teaching in the seventies  when  3 children arrived and a  more reliable income  stream was needed , but continued to gig at every opportunity

He was Musical Director for Gloucestershire Youth Jazz Orchestra (GYJO) for 24 years, and Head of Brass tuition for Gloucestershire Music Service.  Left teaching  in 2004 to concentrate on his own musical activities.

Played  keyboards and trombone for Crescendo Big band and was appointed Musical director  for the band in 2008.

Cheltenham International Jazz Festival accessed Tony's years of experience as a professional musician and educator for their much acclaimed 2005 'ON THE SLIDE' trombone project. For this, Tony wrote the course music, taught the students with a team of trombonists worked closely with the Jazz trombonist Dennis Rollins.  40 students aged 11-16 learned to play the trombone 'from scratch', performing with Dennis and Tony in the 2005 Cheltenham Jazz Festival.
